Hudson, NH – The first weekend of February has come and gone in the State of New Hampshire, and all five Cyclones Academy teams were on the ice battling it out. It was an up and down week for Academy teams, one that had a bright spot of 18U Premier handing a rival a rare loss.

Here is our Cyclones Academy Weekly Recap for the week ending February 7th!

15U: Academy 15U suffered their first winless weekend since November 7th and 8th. They dropped both sides of a home-and-home with the Seacoast Spartans, falling 4-3 on Saturday at Cyclones Arena, and then 7-1 on Sunday at the Rinks at Exeter.

Cameron DiLuzio, Ben Lees and Roberto Nabozny had the goals in Saturday’s loss.

16U Elite: 16U Elite, under Coach Greg Lenti, went 1-1-1-0 in a three-game set on the weekend. They kicked things off with a 1-1 tie at Cyclones Arena on Saturday against the Valley Junior Warriors. On Sunday, they turned around and went 1-1-0-0 in a doubleheader.

First, 16U Elite suffered a tough 4-1 loss on home ice on Sunday morning against the New England Wolves. At 0-1-1-0 on the weekend, 16U Elite knew they needed to buckle down and figure out a way to get back into the win column.

They got back in with style. 16U Elite rolled over the Valley Junior Warriors, pumping home six goals in a dominating 6-0 victory. Goaltender Ayvin Eidsness collected the shutout victory, and finished the weekend 1-0-0-1 while posting a goals against average of 0.50.

16U Premier: Coach Tim Plummer’s group played three games on the weekend and went 2-0-0-1. They split their Saturday doubleheader, then ran away with a victory on Sunday.

In their first game on Saturday, goalie Matt D’Ortona collected the win to improve to 6-0-0-0 on the season, while Neil Patasse fired home the overtime winner in a dramatic 4-3 win over the New Hampshire Monarchs.

Later that day, however, the Cyclones got a taste of their own medicine as they dropped a 4-3 shootout decision to the New Hampshire Avalanche at the Ice Den.

On Sunday, 16U Premier blew away the Monarchs in a rematch of Saturday’s thriller by a final of 6-1 at Cyclones Arena. Patasse again had an impact, as he scored three points (1 g, 2 a) in the win. Joey Lomtevas (1 g, 2 a) and Derek McGrew (1 g, 2 a) also had three point performances in the victory.

Lomtevas was especially strong on the weekend. He scored seven points (2 g, 5 a) over the course of the three games.

18U Elite: Coach Plummer’s group played twice on the weekend, and skated to a 0-1-1-0 record. On Saturday, Victor Gonzalez scored the team’s lone goal in a 1-1 tie against the New Hampshire Avalanche. Billy Dougherty and Drew Zielinski picked up the assists on Gonzalez’s goal.

On Sunday, 18U Elite dropped a tough one to the Seacoast Spartans.

18U Premier: Coach JT Henke’s group had a three-game weekend that opened up on Thursday afternoon. That game Thursday was an impressive one, as 18U Premier handed the New Hampshire Monarchs just their fourth loss of the season.

Carter Brunelle scored the lone goal for the Cyclones, while Ty Smith turned aside 34 shots to collect a huge 1-0 shutout victory.

18U Premier kept it rolling on Friday, as they knocked off Berwick Academy by a final score of 5-4 at Dover Ice Arena. Scott Cremen (1 g, 2 a) and Will Woodruff (3 a) paced the offense with three points each, while Anthony Guy, Keith Kesler, Noah Trathen and Sava Makarenko each chipped in a goal.

18U Premier’s two-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday afternoon when they dropped a 5-2 decision in a rematch against the Monarchs.
