Hudson, NH – The month of January came to a close on Sunday with just one game among the five Cyclones Academy teams. All five teams, however, took to the ice in the final 48 hours of the month. Once again, 15U showed extremely well on the weekend, while 18U Elite also had a strong weekend on the ice.

Here is the Cyclones Academy weekly recap for the week ending on January 31st!

15U: Coach Chris Zuccaro’s team has found their stride in 2021. The Academy 15U team now sits 11-9-1 on the season and has won five out of six games thanks to their two game weekend sweep. On Saturday and Sunday, 15U played host to the Valley Junior Warriors at Cyclones Arena.

On Saturday, 15U skated to a dominating 5-0 decision. The follow-up on Sunday? A 3-1 decision that again went in the Cyclones’ favor.

15U will continue their season this coming weekend with a home-and-home set. They’ll play host to the Seacoast Spartans on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 pm, then meet the Spartans in Exeter on Sunday morning at 10:50 am.

16U Elite: Coach Greg Lenti’s team took the ice on Saturday morning for their lone game of the weekend. Up at Merrill Fay Arena in Laconia, 16U Elite dropped a tough 4-1 decision at the hands of the New England Wolves. It was the second meeting this month between the sides, both of which were won by the Wolves.

16U Elite will return to the ice for a pair this weekend, as they host the Valley Junior Warriors at 5:00 pm Saturday and at 12:10 pm on Sunday at Cyclones Arena.

16U Premier: Coach Tim Plummer’s squad also played just once this weekend. They took care of business in a rivalry game against the New Hampshire Avalanche, knocking them off by a final score of 4-1 at the Ice Den on Saturday afternoon.

16U Premier scored twice on the powerplay in the victory, and blocked a remarkable 45 shots. Matt D’Ortona was outstanding in net, and picked up the victory.

Coach Plummer’s group will return to the ice on Saturday at 12:00 pm when they host the New Hampshire Monarchs at Cyclones Arena. The back-to-back set will conclude on Sunday at 2:00 pm, also at Cyclones Arena.

18U Elite: In their lone game of the weekend, 18U Elite fell behind early to the New Hampshire Avalanche at the Ice Den. The adversity didn’t bother them on this day. 18U Elite stormed back to scored three straight goals and win their second straight game by a final score of 3-1.

18U Elite has now won three of their last four games on the season.

18U Premier: Coach Henke’s team entered the weekend with three straight victories and a GSL title added to their trophy case. Unfortunately, the momentum did not carry over to this weekend’s matchup with Berwick Academy. 18U Premier dropped a 5-2 decision on home ice in the first of two meetings between the teams in six days. They’ll meet again on Friday evening at 5:00 pm, this time in Dover, New Hampshire.

18U Premier was set to host the New Hampshire Monarchs today, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather. It will instead be played on Sunday morning at 9:00 am at Cyclones Arena. The Cyclones and Monarchs will also meet on Thursday at 2:50 pm at Tri-Town Ice Arena.
