Hudson, NH – For the second time in 2021, Cyclones Academy teams hit the ice for a full weekend of hockey. For the first time in 2021, all five Academy teams took the ice in the State of New Hampshire. All of the teams had Friday off from game action, but Saturday was the busiest day of the New Year.

Here is your weekly recap for Cyclones Academy teams for the week ending January 24th!

15U: Coach Chris Zuccaro’s 15U team played a back-to-back set on Saturday and Sunday against the Seacoast Spartans. The boys were ready to go on Saturday, scoring a 4-3 victory at Cyclones Arena to open things up.

On Sunday, however, Seacoast was ready to go and got their revenge. The Spartans took a 3-1 decision at the Rinks at Exeter as the sides split their weekend set.

Owen Cross was sensational in Saturday’s victory. Cross paced the offense with four points (2 g, 2 a) in the win, having a hand in all four goals.

15U is now 9-8-1 on the season and will return to action at Cyclones Arena this coming weekend.

16U Elite: Coach Greg Lenti’s team played just once this weekend, but they made it count. 16U Elite played host to Bishop Guertin’s JV team at Cyclones Arena, defeating them by a final score of 4-1.

Kell Kirtley was a star in this game, scoring two goals and finishing the afternoon with three points (2 g, 1 a) for the Cyclones. Colin Browning also chipped in a goal and an assist, while Jory Veenstra found the back of the net for the second straight weekend. Brady Stevens also chipped in a helper for 16U Elite.

The win pushed 16U Elite to 8-9-1 on the season, with a chance to get back to .500 next weekend. The boys will be on the road Saturday morning when they travel to Merrill Fay Arena to take on the New England Wolves at 7:30 am.

16U Premier: Coach Tim Plummer’s team played just once this weekend, hosting the New Hampshire Avalanche at Cyclones Arena on Saturday evening. Although 16U Premier had ample scoring chances in the affair, they dropped a tough 1-0 decision to push their record to 11-15-1 on the season and will be back in action next weekend.

18U Elite: Like with 16U Premier, Coach Plummer’s team played the New Hampshire Avalanche at Cyclones Arena on Saturday. Victor Gonzalez was the star of this show, scoring three points (2 g, 1 a) in a 4-2 victory.

18U Elite is now 9-8-4 on the season, and has won two of their last three games overall dating back to December. Their win on Saturday was their first victory of 2021.

18U Premier: Coach JT Henke and his team have been putting in the work all season long, and are really seeing the results now. Last Sunday, they took a 5-2 decision over the New Hampshire Avalanche that Coach Henke believed would help kick start the momentum for his club.

He was absolutely right.

18U Premier played a home-and-home against the Avalanche this weekend. They outscored the Avalanche by a 7-3 margin and swept the weekend, winning 3-1 at Cyclones Arena on Saturday and 4-2 at the Ice Den on Sunday. The Sunday victory also gave 18U Premier a GSL State Championship!

Coach Henke will sit down with Alex Thomas of northerncyclones.com to discuss the achievement and what lies ahead later this week!

18U Premier will host Berwick Academy this Saturday at 2:00 pm at Cyclones Arena.
