Hudson, NH – The Northern Cyclones organization is extremely excited to announce that three-year F Ben Peterson has committed to play his college hockey at Saint Anselm College! Peterson, currently serving as captain of the Cyclones USPHL Premier team, will begin his college career next fall.

“The Northern Cyclones are by far the best organization to play for if you are looking to mature and develop as a hockey player both on and off the ice,” Peterson said after finalizing his commitment. “This organization provides their players with every tool a player needs to be successful and advance to the next level. The Cyclones are very professional when it comes to their coaching staff, trainers and facilities.”

Peterson, a native of New Hampshire, began his Cyclones career during the 2018-19 season. He started at the Academy level, playing for the program’s 18U team. In 29 games, Peterson made his mark by scoring 33 points (15 g, 18 a). That caught the eye of the junior program, which brought Peterson on board for the 2019-20 season.

Peterson suited up for Head Coach Bill Weiand on the Premier team in 2019-20, appearing in 36 games. He scored 22 points (6 g, 16 a) and emerged as a leader for the group.

“They provide every team within the organization unlimited ice time as well as open access to their personal gym,” Peterson continued in his post-commitment comments. “The Cyclones coaches and strength coaches take the time to help guide each player to their dream goal of playing college hockey. These coaches will push to get colleges in the building to give players a chance of being observed by the schools of their choice. I cannot thank the coaches enough for all the things that they have done for me in the last three years.

“I’m appreciative that I have been given the opportunity to play for Coach Bill Weiand these past two seasons. Coach Bill guided me on a path to make a successful hockey career along with pushing me to advance to the next level. I would also like to thank both Bill and Joe Flanagan for providing the necessary facilities needed to all players within the organization. I have yet to find an organization out there that has a coaching staff so approachable, helpful, and hardworking like the Cyclones staff.”

Peterson, named captain along defenseman Oscar Richardson earlier this season, has appeared in eight games with the Premier team so far in 2020-21. He’s scored six points (3 g, 3 a) for the 6-2-0 Cyclones.

“I am extremely excited to continue my academic and hockey career at Saint Anselm College,” Peterson added. “I am very thankful for the opportunity that Coach Rocha is giving me and I cannot wait to compete at the collegiate level.”

Peterson will join former Cyclones Alec Grace, Kilian Hammersmith, Lenny Brochu, John Wilson, Anthony Iacullo and Nick Howard on the Saint Anselm roster for the 2021-22 season.
